How many people can say they’ve feasted on a meal prepared by a chef who is both a James Beard Award winner and was named “Best New Chef” by Food & Wine magazine?
Unless you’re a celebrity chef groupie, the chances are pretty slim.
But now is your chance. That is, if you’re going to be in San Diego Oct. 9th.
On that evening, Chef Nate Appleman will be making a special appearance in the kitchen at Del Mar’s Sea & Smoke. He will be the guest of Chef Matt Gordon, as part of a collaboration dinner and official welcome to Appleman, who recently relocated to San Diego from the East Coast.
For those not familiar with Appleman or his cooking credentials, you seriously don’t want to miss an opportunity to eat a meal prepared by him.
Appleman has been written about by The New York Times, The Village Voice and once faced down Iron Chef Michael Symon on the Food Network in “Battle Suckling Pig.” He now works in the test kitchen for Chipotle Mexican Grill, exploring ingredients and techniques that help to shape the more than 250 million meals Chipotle serves each year.
His resume also includes having attended The Culinary Institute of America and working in Ristorante Dulcamara in Florence, Italy.
Some of the recipes Appleman shared with Food & Wine magazine when being named Best New Chef will make your mouth water. They include mustard and mayonnaise glazed asparagus; Pinzimonio with Tonnato Sauce and Proscuitto-Cheese Piadina.
Yum.
On the evening of October 9th Appelman and Gordon will be working with a number of local artisan producers of both food and beverages including Sonrise Ranch, Butcher’s Brewing Company, Malahat Spirits, Mikolich Honey, and Eben Haezer Egg Ranch.
A portion of the proceeds from the dinner will be donated to the Kawasaki’s Disease Foundation, a cause near and dear to Chef Nate’s heart as the parent of child diagnosed with KD.
The cost of this fabulous collaboration dinner is $65 per guest with local beverage pairings available at an additional price. For reservations: email events@seaandsmoke.com or call Sea & Smoke at 858.925.8212.
Appleman no longer works in a restaurant, but instead devotes his time to working with Chipotle, which means his Sea & Smoke appearance is truly a rare opportunity to enjoy a meal prepared by this star of the culinary scene.
